I'm home from Africa, in case you were wondering.

Four years ago I had to say goodbye to the only man I have ever loved.

My heart is being broken by two year olds

Who knew that the sweet innocent face of a two year old could also be the face of one who breaks your heart over and over again.

I teach two and three year old children on Wednesday nights here in town.  I truly love this opportunity for me to share with these kids and to love on them.  Two of my kiddos continually break my heart each week.  Please pray for them.

Scott is from a poor family of five children.  He is the youngest of the five.  One week he came into the class and his mom had told me that she could not afford to buy their dinner at the church that night.  What do I do? I do whatever I can to make sure that this two-year-old goes home with a full tummy.
Scott never has shoes or clothes that really fit him.  Mom walks the kids to church which is only about five blocks, but that is five children she cares for every Sunday and Monday.  Mom is one of those early in life moms.  Praises for this family though!  Scott is going to be enrolled in Head Start on Monday!! Once he is enrolled  his mom is going back to get her GED.  Please pray for her and the family, but also the ministry opportunity I have here.

Brooke is my other child.  Brooke also comes from a broken home.  Mom and Dad are not around much and the grandma's are close to raising the kids.  Dad beats Mom... Last week Brooke came to class with two black eyes.  Possibly from her two older brothers, possibly from Dad.  I have no idea.

In other news... I have found out that it is quite possible that I will be teaching women in Africa how to teach the other women and children of the churches.  Please pray for this opportunity and that I will know what I am supposed to do, as it is likely I will be the head of this part of our mission.

A week in review

Monday, a normal day...

Tuesday, wake up at the crack at dawn, walk out to my car at 7:15 to discover that it had been egged.  Headed to school still.  After my forty minute drive to Wheatland to be with my 3rd graders I feel completely blessed to be there.  God shows me that He is going to provide in the smallest ways.  I was able to see the sunrise on my drive out there over the country land.  :)

Wednesday was full of work.  I'm teaching 3 yr old children for a couple of hours in the mornings, then I've got class.  After class its off to work at BASE then teach 2/3yr olds mission friends.

Thursday is my day full of classes and meetings.  By the time everything was said and done, I was completely exhausted, emotionally and physically.  8am-11pm jammed packed is tiring!!!

Friday was most definately dedicated to sleep until it was time for work.  I'm pretty sure that I slept until noon.  Work was the craziest yet most fun day ever!  BASE took 80 children swimming here at SBU.  After work I was able to have dinner with my roommate and then Nicki, Amanda, and I headed down to Springfield to the Mudhouse for some coffee.  Most tasty! Many laughs were shared when attempting to play a game of Scrabble.  Amanda and I were seperate and playing against Nicki and David, the African man we met down there.  Then we went star gazing.  Oh how amazing God is!!! We first went and laid in the middle of the golf course, but headed back to pick up some more people and ended up going out to the middle of nowhere to this wooden bridge.  It's a little creepy out there, but with all of us it was fun.  I definately got back to the dorm around 3:30 or so.

Saturday was probably the highlight of my week :)  Martin came down to visit.  I gave him a little tour of campus and Bolivar when he first got here.  Then we went down to Springfield.  Watched Click (good movie), had a good dinner at Logan's Roadhouse, walked around the mall, and I got my butt kicked in a game of air hockey.  Back to Bolivar we went for coffee and checkers at the Daily Grind and a movie in the lobby.  Overall I was very suprised he actually showed up, but I am so happy that he did. :)

Sunday was the Lord's day.  I went to church, had lunch, had my Sunday afternoon nap :)))))   and spent time with Amanda.  Oh yea, and I got to relax while listening to the rain.

That brings me to today.  Today has been a good day.  I had a mission trip meeting for missions fest.  I pretty much get to run the Swaziland table tomorow night before the Jason Morant concert.  I'm excited.

Please pray for me as things can become very overwhelming during the week.  Also, please pray for the 11 in my group (8 girls, 3 guys) as we prepare for our trip to Swaziland in January.

So due to the request of my "little sister" Taba, I have decided to update finally.

School is stressful.  I'll admit, I'm a bit overwhelmed with all of the work that I have to do within the next few weeks.  Next week starts my field experience in a 3rd grade classroom.  Please pray for me as I begin to teach these students, as well as be a student myself.

Along with 17 hours of school, I am working.  Tuesday-Friday I work from 3-6 with approximately 85 school aged children. On Wednesdays I will also be working from 10am-12 during a women's Bible study at First Baptist here in town. Then from 6-8:30 I am teaching 2&3 year old kids Mission Friends program.  I've never really worked with this age so I don't know how to teach them right now.  I know God will provide the knowledge though.

I am going home this weekend!! This will be a much needed break.  I'm ready to see my family again, and some friends.  :)  I'm not homesick or anything, just ready to get away from the craziness for a few days.
